Sharing Kindness Rocks along our many adventures!

Discovery of our Stones

One of our favorite parts of leaving the stones in random places is the feedback we get from people who find them. We have placed our url on the back of the rocks and love to hear where they have been and the impact that they had. If you have found our rocks we would love to hear from you and where you found it!

People have also tagged us in their IG posts…

Here are a few of the responses we have received:

We are Southwest Oncology Centers in south Scottsdale.  Our office has two buildings with a courtyard in between.  Someone has left several of the rocks in our plant boxes.  We love them!  Our patients love them!  They spend time looking at them while waiting for their radiation treatments.  The messages give us all inspiration.  One that was most popular was, “Worrying does not take away tomorrows troubles.  It takes away todays peace.”  Thank you so much! ~Mary

Found this at Banner Health Osborn in Phoenix. “The past is a place of reference, not a place of residence”.  After losing my wife this has helped me deal with the loss and try and move on. Someday I will leave it and maybe it will help someone else as it has helped me. Thank you. God Bless. ~Jerry

I found one of your rocks on a hiking trail here in Phoenix AZ.  I’m taking it of state to place it on another hiking trail next week.  Either in Boise or by the beach in Santa Barbara.  The one I found
“MAY YOUR DAY BE FILLED OF MAGIC AND MAY YOU NOT BE TOO BUSY TO SEE IT”  This made my day! thank you Xo
 ~Terri

I am 81 years old and would love to trade ages with you. Look at your high school experience as if you are looking back from ten years in the future.  I will be entertaining and you won’t have to worry about fitting in.  Your place is what you choose between watching the tamed ones and the wild ones and remembering to make good decisions every day. ~Leroy

What a special moment to find one of your rocks! (Rest stop in Texas on I10 East by mile marker 395) I am traveling to Houston with my mother and sister to the Anderson Cancer Center where my mother is being treated. The rocks message is : Whatever you need is inside of you”. This is so perfect for everyone but for my mother it is a confirmation that within her is faith, prayer, hope and a strong will to overcome her cancer!  We plan on leaving our rock at the hospital to encourage another patient! Thank you! ~Teresa

I found your stone “You’ve got the light to fight the shadows, so stop hiding it away” in Coronado, California.  The stone flew to NYC in the baggage compartment on Delta airlines.  The stone has made its journey to Central New York.  The stone will be left in a garden of a home of a tween and her younger sister who each have created stones that have made their own special journeys. ~Connie

Found one of your stones at the Steel Rigg car Park on 21st August has now travelled back to France with me so Is now having ‘the last of the summer sun’  before probably travelling to Scotland at half term in October. ~Nickie

Hi Cat, and Mom! I found your beautiful turquoise rock saying “what defines us is how well we rise after falling” at the airport in Great Britain, I don’t remember if it was Manchester or Birmingham cause I’ve been at both the last 2 years. And I have to admit I brought your rock to Vienna, my hometown in Austria. First I wanted to pass it on, but then it stayed at my shelf until today. I guess I needed that beautiful color and the quote, something in me didn’t want to let go. But now I will pass it on for others to cheer up 🙂 I love your idea and your travel blog!
Besides, I am Geo-Cacher. If you don’t know what it is, check out
geocaching.com. You might like it! When out in nature or cities we search for hidden treasures. I also put some little caches out there for others to find. With an app on your phone you can log your find and write a nice message to the owner. I like getting messages from catchers who found mine. SO it’s a bit similar to what you do. And already millions of people play it worldwide. I bet there are some really cool geocaches in your area, too. If now, hide some! So I will put the rock in one of my caches and I am sure some GeoCachers will take it to the next cache, and the next… and the next. I hope they will write you about it.
If you do this via GeoCache, you automatically get the notifications when someone logged your cache 😉
Hugs from Vienna! Stay safe and keep enjoying traveling and greetings to your Mom, too
~Joey

Hello, this is wayyyyy late lol but i found one of your rocks in Scottsdale Arizona in January 2020 outside my hospital room and it said “Follow your dreams They know the way”. This was really wonderful because i almost died during my surgery, just recently i really really took that in. I had a simple hernia mesh revision surgery 2nd one, and i had 3 blood transfusions during it, got 3 blood clots and was very scared when i woke up. Maybe i was dumb lol but i just blindly thought that i was going to be ok. All my family lives in Oregon where i am from and my mom was on a flight within 12 hours. My friend brought this rock into my room for me when i was recovering and stayed with me for 4 hours till visiting time was over. I just really thought when i got your rock that i would love to get out of this hospital room and paint a rock with my daughter..Thank you very much for my rock, i look at it and think back to the hospital room and i just feel grateful for my life, my kids, family, my job and just everything….So thank you and your wonderful family very much for my rock.  It lives in Portland Oregon overlooking the Willamette River. ~Cheryle

This was a BIZARRE find! Heck people may even think I’m crazy . Long story short in first part, we are a military husband and wife with 5 adult children and 2 grandchildren. We reside on army base in Louisiana. Our children reside in Florida. Covid has been horrible to all putting traveling restrictions and whatnot. We actually were allowed a leave and were traveling to Florida after 7 months to see our kids. I can’t go alone sadly because of my health and copd. My health with breathing has been failing miserably even as much as me telling my husband, “who knows maybe this will sadly be the last time I see my kids. I’ll be surprised if I make it until next block leave”. We get to Florida at a rest stop on I10 in Lee, Florida area. We park, I glance up at rest stop and ask my husband, “why on earth do these rest stops have them bathroom so far from the cars?!? How on earth am I going to walk back and forth?!?”. I managed to get to bathroom. Sat there for a while trying to breath before I made trek back to truck. As I’m walking, I stop once to breath (struggle tremendously with masks yet want to keep myself and everyone else safe from Covid). I start walking again, once again thinking, “my gawd how am I going to make it to the truck?” and it felt like someone through something at me and hit my foot and I heard was a rock when it clinked in the ground. While I know no one threw it because it was completely empty at the rest stop, no people around, I bend over to pick it up, walk to truck. My husband asks what did you pick up, and I start reading it and hears a rock they says, may your resilience never give up”. We’re you GODS messengers? You tell me. I can’t see it any other way. I’m in no way a noble banger, don’t go to church. I am Christian and believe in GOD but never a STRONG Christian. So this out some thought in my mind that it couldn’t be seen and other way then y’all are gods messengers. ~Arlene

I love your blog and hope that the only reason there haven’t been any posts since this last one about Paris is because of the travel challenges due to Covid and that you and your family are all safe and healthy!
I’m posting because I found your rock by the Costco in North Phoenix.  I saw them after I had parked my car and had commented to the attendant about them and he said that they disappear and new ones show up mysteriously.   I thought it was so cool!
After shopping and loading my car, I went and looked at the rocks (there were 3) again.   While I was looking at them again, the same attendant came by again and commented that people take them sometimes and suggested that I do so.  So I did!   I selected the “Trust the Journey the Universe is paving for you”.  This was just perfect before me as I’m a mid-50s woman who is recently diagnosed with ADHD.  It’s already be a journey and I know it will be a while before I get things figured out and can live my best life (which I’ve struggled to manage previously but now that I know why, hopefully I will be able to figure out mitigating strategies.

Anywho, once I’m secure in my trust of the Universe to guide my path and no longer need this visual reminder, my intention is to share this rock with the Universe and place it someplace else “common” for someone else to find and be inspired by/reminded of the wisdom shared on this precious stone.  🙂
Thank you so much for creating it!   <3
~Diane

Found your stone “I’ll love you with all the madness in my soul – Bruce at the “Springsteen on Broadway” show on Saturday, October 28, 2017. I decided to take it with me and share it with my daughter when I told her about my awesome New York girlfriend weekend. My plans are to take it with me the next time I travel and leave it somewhere for someone else to find it. Kajsa

Found the red “happiness…” stone among its native-hue southwestern kin at Papago Park in Phoenix. It presently resides in seeming obscurity in Bond Park in Cary, NC, randomly chucked into a field populated by its natural-hue eastern sandhills kin.

Hi! Found your rock in a Palo Verde Tree in Scottsdale, AZ, just outside of Osborn Hospital. Such a fun surprise. Thanks for positive message which reads “You can change the world”. I’m going to have fun with this rock and pass it along. Let’s see how far it will travel.
You are so awesome! Thanks .

I found one of your painted rocks near the parking area for Honor Health Osborn Hospital in Scottsdale Arizona. The message of “YOU CAN DO IT” was very timely as my husband was having some extremely scary post surgical issues….Thanks for the positive message at a time it was greatly needed ❤️❤️ It will have a prominent spot in our home until my husband is fully recovered….at that point we will “pass it on”

    • Nicole

Thanks for letting us know! Hopefully your husband is doing well!

Found a rock next to my seat outside the Starbucks in Scottsdale Hilton village. Thank You for spreading smiles across the miles!

  7. Sharon

I am another person whose day was brightened when I found several of your rocks on a coffee table outside the Starbucks at the Hilton Village Shopping Center in Scottsdale, AZ. I chose the rock that carried the message “Focus on the small things in LIFE”. I chose this rock from among several on the table because it reminded me of one of my favorite Mother Theresa quotes telling us to do small things with great love. Love your life of travel and your creation of a digital community around it — your own movable feast! Thanks for sharing your adventures and spreading love and kindness wherever you go.

  8. Leslie

We found rocks as we were leaving my Mom’s radiology appointment in Scottsdale. She choose a purple (her favorite color) rock with an angel on it. It brightened our day. Thank you so much!

    • Nicole

Howdy! I found a stone painted (my absolute favorite color!) & the word Hope painted on it.
I was walking in my neighborhood in Peoria, AZ & saw it in some rocks. I thought a child had dropped it because there’s a K-8 school in my neighborhood. So, I picked it up thinking how can I get this back to them & when I flipped it over I saw the sticker on the back. Oh My Goodness!! How awesome is that?! So, It will take place in our rock collection right by our front door. My heart is full of gratitude for this positive, feel-good, nothing in return surprise, today. Blessings, Theresa (Wife, Mom of a teen boy, & a Sister that needs to act as Mom,)

    • Nicole

Thank you so much for letting us know! I know exactly which rock that was and it was painted by one of my daughters 10 year old friends. We had originally left it at the Harkins Theatre at Scottsdale 101 so someone must have moved it there. It’s fun to hear about it’s journey and appreciate the update! Glad the universe wanted you to find it! 🙂

My daughter found a turquoise rock at Camelback Mountain in Scottsdale and brought it home and left it on my counter. It says “great things never came from comfort zones” and I love it!

    • Nicole

Thank you so much for letting us know it found you! Someone must have moved it there because I haven’t been up Camelback Mountain for over a year. 🙂

  14. LeeRose

We were in Phoenix for the 1000 Lights Festival on Feb 2 2019 and I found one that says ‘you are exactly where you need to be.’ Love it

  15. Vikki Stubbs

Found one of the rocks left at the doctor’s offices in Scottsdale. Didn’t notice them on the way in since it was pouring rain, but had lessened by the time I left. Picked a blue one since it is my favorite color and the saying hit home. I feel at times my life has been lived willy-nilly without much plan or direction, so at 70 think the advice of “Live less out of habit and more of intent” is just what I needed. Thank you! Keeping it on my desk in Scottsdale to help with daily planning, but will take it with us on travels also!

  16. Alex Riera

I found one of your stones today in Scottsdale, AZ right before my Orange Theory class. ?It’s a blue stone that read: Today the universe will provide bountiful opportunities for your success open yourself to them? I’m visiting from Miami,FL and the discovery really made my day unbelievably special. This was all the more meaningful as I recently had a traumatic job loss and I’m still recovering from this. It felt like the universe was sending me a message- THANK YOU, it touched my soul. I’ll be taking this stone back to Miami and spreading the positivity forward. Much Love- Alex

  17. Don N.

Found “life is short, focus on what matters and let go of what doesn’t” along a walking trail in Scottsdale, Arizona. There were several other in that area but we left those for others. Love the stone. I will be returning home to Morro Bay, Ca., and will set it free on the along my walking path there. Brought a smile to my face, thank you.

  18. Sue

Found my rock, ”You don’t have to control your thoughts. You just have to stop letting them control you.” At Lake Saguara outside of Phoenix/Scottsdale Arizona. It is now in Grimes, Iowa. Soon to be relocated at a nearby park. Thanks for a great idea and fun!

  24. garrett

Found a pink rock by Stoneman lake Arizona a few weekends ago. it says you are awesome

  25. Tori Adams

One of my caregivers had found a rock that says,: you were always meant to fly. Found in Arizona and he gave it to me because for two reasons: I love butterflies and butterflies have a signifacance in my life. Buterflies have a significace in my life because my grandmother liked them and she passed to 2 years ago almost three and also they make me feel free. The rock ended up in america and I live Fort Atkinson WI.

    • Nicole

I feel like butterflies are always there for me during hikes when I am getting tired or unsure of my surroundings. They have special significance for me as well so I completely understand. Thanks for letting us know! We will keep you posted if we hear about the rock again!

  26. Garrett

I took the time to comment before and was going to place your stone this week somewhere special but returned here to see nothing. Disappointed. Holding onto rock until further notice.

    • Nicole

Sorry I didn’t respond earlier! We were getting ready for a big trip and life was crazy! We actually have a cabin at Stoneman Lake and left it there while we were visiting for the weekend! Thanks for keeping us updated! We will keep you posted if we hear about it again!

  27. Colbert Helm

Received your rock via a friend for my birthday…
someone gave me a birthday card talking about magical places
I will give the rock to her with the saying on it “you are something magical”
who knows where it shall travel next??

    • Nicole

Happy Birthday!! Im glad the rock made it to you and appreciate hearing about its latest owner! I will keep you posted if we hear where it ends up!

  28. Jim Garth

Got my shoe lace caught in my bicycle crank while riding one morning a few months ago along Indian Bend Wash in Scottsdale, AZ. Stopped to fix it and happened to stop right by a light pole that had one of your rocks sitting on its base. It read “Try. . . otherwise you’ll never know.” Then noticed your sticker on the back. Took it home with me to show our grandkids; they all enjoyed it. It then sat on our breakfast table until today when I am going to place it on the rail of a bicycle / walking bridge over an irrigation canal near Ken McDonald Golf Course in Tempe, AZ for someone else to discover, pick-up, enjoy, and move along.

  29. Annemarie

I found your stone “If it no longer serves you, let it go” in the Gorges de l’Areuse, in the canton of Neuchâtel, where I have lived for a great many years. What a lovely idea! I suppose you must have left it there yourself rather than another traveler, as I saw a picture of your daughter on the little stone bridge spanning the Areuse! I’ll take it with me on one of my Alpine hikes this summer or else in another interesting country….Hope you hear where that will be:):) Happy travels!

    • Nicole

That is one of the most beautiful walks I have ever been on. You are so lucky to have that in your backyard! Thanks for letting us know you found it.It is always so fun to hear where they end up!

  30. Marilyn N.

This morning while at a garage sale in Mesa, Arizona we found this rock: painted black with the message: ” Gratitude is short for Great Attitude.” Loved that slogan!! The lady having the sale gave it to us free and wanted us to post where it was found. We’ll enjoy it for awhile in Mesa where we live and take it with us as we travel. I’ll post its whereabouts and when we pass it on to another person, we’ll tell you where it was left. Thanks so much!!

  31. Karen Farner

I was surprised to find a rock in our lab this evening. It made me smile.

  32. Connie Miller

    • Nicole

Thank you so much for letting us know! It is so fun to track the rocks journeys! It makes us happy to hear that others are enjoying the joys of rock painting and we hope that the like our rock! Hope you had a good trip in Coronado. That area is heaven on Earth.

  33. Mary Theobald

Our grandson found one of your rocks in Pinetop,AZ outside of the Pinetop Brewery. We plan to take it to Monterey, Ca with us when we go at the end of the month.

  34. SwankieWheels

I found my rock above Stoneman Lake, Arizona in April 2019. That is near Happy Camp. There was a Forest Fire Nearby so I had to leave the area due to smoke. Great view on Forest Road 213 overlooking the lake.
I am 75 and have kayaked all 50 states. Still adventuring. Plan to visit Italy soon. Travel on. Happy Trails.

    How do I post photos?

  35. Robert S LaRoche

In Phoenix AZ, Papago Park, found “Don’t quit of your worst day….it will get better”. Truly inspirational and is second one that was found in Papago which only proves the parks goodness. The other one was gold but found by my friend and said something like “Even a white rose has a thorn” or something like that. Plan to put the one I found back in circulation waiting to be discovered in Papago Park again!

  36. Cathy

I found the wonderful stone “You are a Star to someone’s galaxy and right now I needed to hear this as I’m dealing with a health issue of my husbands but I have a friend who needs it more so will be leaving it for her to find. Thank you for your gift!

  37. Deb

I found the rock, “Spontaneity is the best kind of adventure” at the Embassy Suites in Scottsdale, AZ. We’re here for business and I’m planning on taking it home with me to Georgia. I hope whomever finds it there will post on your wall also! Or maybe I should take it on my cruise in December and leave it in the Caribbean!?!?

  38. Laura A Bartos

Hello Nicole and Cat. I found your sweet painted rock by my car this afternoon at 32nd Street. Thank you for the surprise and the oh so kind words! Unfortunately I never found my car keys. I hiked all the way back to the top but they were no where to be found. They must have rolled off the trail when they fell out of my pack. Take care and thank you again for your kind little gift to sweeten the day. I´ll definitely pass it on to another when the time is right. PS…love reading about your travels.

  39. Kevin

Taking a 10 hr 7 day test, all stress out, unsure that I’m going to pass test. Talking with my wife found this little rock, it says { the best thing I ever done was to believe in me } it was just what I needed.. thank you…..

  41. Melissa Moyer

    Phoenix Az 10/25/19
I was out for my morning walk on by break from work and looked over and found a cute little gem.
“Shoes or people……if they hurt you they are not your size” ……. funny how the universe works so that you hear words when they are so desperately needed 🙂 thank you!

  42. Anna

Hi I was very moved by this stone cause I’m a teen going through high school and I was struggling with trying to fit in so. I found “don’t let the tamed ones tell you how to live.’ At Scottsdale Arizona at the Embassy suites. I 💕 this so much. I decided to move it and the next day it had been moved again. Keep on doing this #❤️Travelingwithmytween

  45. Steven Johnson

From Napa California, found my rock at Embassy Suites in Scottsdale, Az. “Choose Happy”

  46. Johanna

Oooops, I just posted my comment on Cats blog… so here, too 😀 I found the “what defines us is how well we rise after falling” rock in England! I saw it at the airport (Manchester or Birmingham? – sorry, travel so much myself…) It was lying on a wall, in the middle of a hall with hundreds of people! I was like – did someone just drop it here? Or did so man ignore it? It’s so bright turquoise and beautiful… I took it and had it on my shelf now for a long time. But as much as I want to keep it for it’s color and quote – I want others to get the chance to share it, too. So I will put it in my geocache where others will move it to more places 🙂
Hope to reed more of your traveling in the future, hugs, Joey
PS: And thanks for the rock! It’s special to me

Hello, I went for a hike and found one of your rocks with the message don’t panic!

  50. Leroy Cook

I found a rhetorical stone “Standing alone has a power very few can handle.” on a great promontory in Papago park (Near Tempe AZ) today. I will have fun deciding where to move it to.

  51. Jack

Found a little yellow stone with DON’T LOSE YOUR FIRE on it in Tribes Coffee House Santa Fe NM June 21, 2020.

  52. Kilian Hamilton

I was in Scottsdale AZ and was walking through a home depot parking lot and there it was . The rock said. The question is not what you look at but what you see. Im so glad that I found this rock because it has more meaning than what is written.

  53. Tina

We found 2 of your rocks in Scottsdale, AZ in February as we were hiking the atom Thumb trail. They ended up in the Ft. worth area of Texas at 2 different parks. One was left on Parr Parr trail that has become a rock park where people are asked to leave the stones for others to see and enjoy but not take, the other was placed in another park for someone to find and take. This was a great idea, it was fur for my daughter and I to find it and eventually share with others.

  54. Jerry

Found this at Banner Health Osborn in Phoenix. “The past is a place of reference, not a place of residence”. After losing my wife this has helped me deal with the loss and try and move on. Someday I will leave it and maybe it will help someone else as it has helped me. Thank you. God Bless.

    • Nicole

Thank you so much for your notes. I am so sorry to hear about your wife. I do feel that the universe gives you what you need and knew you needed this message. Take care of yourself.

  55. Teresa Bookout

Thank you!

    • Nicole

Thank you so much for your lovely note! I do believe the universe aids in ensuring the right message gets to the right people. I will say prayers for your mother and hope you have a safe journey and she gets well soon. Nicole

So this out some thought in my mind that it couldn’t be seen and other way then y’all are gods messengers.

Thank you so much for relaying your story about finding our rock. Honestly, you made my day, week and holiday season. I do believe a higher power provides us with the messages we need to hear when we need to hear them so I am glad that rock made it to you when it did. Our bodies are capable of amazing things and sometimes we just need that reminder. I will keep you in my thoughts and have hopes that you will have many more holidays with your family. Have a blessed Holiday season with your family!

Hiked the Gateway Loop Trail and found a rock with “The Price of Anything is the amount of life you exchange for it”…beautiful! I picked it up and took it with me on a hike in Cave Creek and placed it on a boulder on the trail. Thanks for adding happiness and sunshine.

You are awesome. I found the one that said “We cannot fully comprehend all of the forces…..” and it was so much meant for me 🙂

12-April-2021 I found the green rock “I am going to stand outside so if anyone asks. I am outstanding” while hiking near Piestewa Peak in the Phoenix Mountain Preserves.

Found a beautiful saying on a painted rock while hiking a trail in Scottsdale, AZ. I picked it up and will share the joy as will place it on another trail tomorrow. Thanks for adding sunshine to an already sunshine-filled state 🙂 Gary W.

This is the 3rd stone I have found during my hikes. The 1st two I kept and placed in my planters…….found one today that I will leave on another trail tomorrow. The one I found this morning was in the bushes(had to scale a few boulders to obtain it) at the top of the Lost Dog Wash Trail in Scottsdale (Taliesin Overlook). the inscription was: “It’s OK to Press Pause”. Thank you so much for always brightening up a day!

I found your rock in Arizona and brought it home with me to North Bay Ontario Canada. What a wonderful thing to do

I found your stones on a hike in Phoenix, Arizona, and I love them! They really helped me through a difficult time (you probably hear that a lot).
I’m doing a workshop at ASU over Spring Break called ASU ROCKS! for the English Department. We are going to paint positive sayings from lines of poetry. Could you let me know what type of base paint you are using? They are making new acrylics that dry too slowly for our project. Any information and advice you can give is appreciated.
